Prince Edward County is the newest wine region in the country to carry the princely title of VQA. But it hasn't come easy. The winemaker's who create the wines from this appellation, have to work very hard. The region’s growing season experiences spring frosts creeping into late May and fall frosts appearing as early as mid-October. But the grapes benefit from one of the key ingredients of a cool-climate viticulture region- limestone. The county boasts a variety of soil types perfect for winegrowing. These soils lay atop a broad limestone plateau, creating good structure with ample drainage, shale and minerals- qualities that are passed on to the unique wines of Prince Edward County.
