As Canada's oldest wine region, Pelee Island has seniority. And as a senior, loves spending its time south. The southerly location means an early grape harvest. All that warm, spring sunshine gets the grapes to bud early, and they're often picked by the end of August. But the temperature isn't the only unique part of this appellation. The soil, one of the most important factors of why a wine tastes the way it does, lies over limestone bedrock. The sandy loam and clay allow grape vines to benefit from the rich minerals of the stone and are carried through to the grapes. Giving the wines from this region their own separate and distinct character. Find out more about the wines that originate from this unique appellation by clicking on the winery links below.
