It may be hard to imagine, but Lake Erie's North Shore is on the same latitude as Bordeaux, France, and so are a lot of other grape growing regions around the world. That's because grapes only grow in two geographical belts around the globe- one just north of the equator and one a little bit south of the equator. These belts are the only places that produce the right mixture of sun, rain, and temperature. Between latitudes 41 and 44 is known as the northern grape growing belt- and it's where you'll find southern Ontario, along with northern California, parts of Italy and also France. Each of these wine growing regions produce their own unique taste, style and quality of wines.
